Getting Started With Publishing

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11
10:00AM-1:00PM Central Time
ONLINE
Register by February 6

Are you ready to share your writing with the world but don’t know where to start? In this workshop, we’ll cover all the basics for how to start submitting your stories, essays, and poems for publication.

We’ll discuss reasons you might want to publish, how to tell when a piece is ready to submit, the world of literary journals and writing contests, tips for giving your submission the best chance of being accepted, as well as resources for finding the right place to submit.

Note: this class will focus on publishing short pieces like stories, essays, and poems. We won’t be discussing how to publish book-length work.

By the end of this 3-hour class, you’ll:

  • Know why you might want to pursue publication

  • Better understand if your writing is ready to submit

  • Learn about submitting to literary journals and contests

  • Get tips on how to make your submission as strong as possible

  • Leave with at least one place that will be a good fit for submitting your work

  • Connect with a community of other writers

PAY FROM THE HEART TUITION: $45-85
Sustainable rate: $65

I offer sliding scale “pay from the heart” tuition. The price that is sustainable for me is $65.

Paying the full price means you are supporting students who need to pay less. Paying the reduced price means that your tuition is supported by others who can pay more.

Please choose the amount that best meets your circumstances and what feels right in your heart.

If you need a scholarship or a payment plan, please contact me.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you cancel 10 or more days before the class starts, you will receive a full refund.

  • If you cancel after that time, you will receive a recording and handouts from the class (online classes only) or credit toward a future class, depending on your preference.

  • If you cancel on the day of the class, don't show up, or leave early, you will not receive either a refund or credit.

  • On rare occasions, I may need to cancel a class due to unforeseen circumstances. If that happens, I will do my best to reschedule for a time when all students can attend.
