I help you create a kind and sustainable writing practice
If you dream of publishing a book, finishing a single piece, or just getting words on the page and you’re tired of fear and overwhelm getting in the way, I’m here to support you.
I bring a contemplative lens to my teaching and 1:1 mentoring, drawn from twenty years of meditation practice and a lifetime of creative writing.
If you work with me, you can expect to develop a consistent writing practice, make clear progress towards your goals, learn craft tools, and engage in the ongoing practice of making friends with your mind.
How I give feedback
When you send me your work, I'll ask you to write a brief note with any specific questions you have about your piece or areas you want my feedback on.
I'll offer comments on what I find strong and moving, as well as what I think could be strengthened, expanded, or cut.. I'll let you know where I feel connected and engaged or confused and taken out of the piece—and why.
I’ll give you specific suggestions for revision, including thoughts on structure, narrative arc, themes, imagery, diction/syntax, and characterization/dialogue. For poetry, I’ll also comment on lines, stanzas, and rhythm.
My highest priority is to help empower you to listen to your creative wisdom and make your piece the best version of itself.
My commitment to social justice and
diversity, equity & inclusion
I identify as a white, straight, cisgendered, woman from a rural, working class background. I have been engaged in anti-oppression work since I was a teenager, and I am dedicated to the lifelong process of learning, reflection, healing, co-conspiratorship, and action that social justice work requires.
My teaching philosophy is student-centered and encourages you to co-create the kind of experience that will best support your needs and goals. You are the expert about your lived experience, and I am here to encourage your personal and creative growth through a collaborative, respectful, and empowering partnership.
The readings I assign will always include a wide variety of voices, primarily centering writers from historically oppressed identities.
