Beyond the First Draft: Revising Poetry (Winter)

Beyond the First Draft: Revising Poetry

February 5 - March 12, 6-8 pm CT
Online with the loft literary center

You’ve written the wobbly first draft of a poem. Bravo! Perhaps you’ve made some edits and even had feedback from friends, but you can tell something is missing. Maybe you like it even less than before. What now?

In this class, we’ll unpack the biggest and most mysterious phase of the writing process: revision. You'll develop tools that help you nurture and complete an early draft of a poem, gain a deeper understanding of the craft, and get feedback on your poem. Class texts include Living Revision and The Poet's Toolbox.

In this class, you will:

  • Develop tools that help you revise your poetry.

  • Better understand the fundamentals of the craft.

  • Receive feedback on a poem.

  • Grow your ability to tell if your piece is finished or needs more work.

  • Explore what to do when you're stuck.

  • Connect with a community of writers
