Befriending the Inner Critic

Befriending the Inner Critic

SATURDAYS, JUNE 11-JULY 16
11:00AM-1:00PM CST
ONLINE VIA ZOOM

You’re not a real writer. This sucks. What a cliche. Everyone else has it figured out but you.

Sound familiar? No matter how long we’ve been writing, the inner critic can still haunt us, showing up in the form of harsh thoughts, fear, procrastination, and perfectionism.

In this six-week class, we’ll use the tools of mindfulness to understand the inner critic, befriend this often-misunderstood part of ourselves, and learn to keep writing through it all.

CLASS FORMAT:

Each class will include:

  • Guided meditation

  • Writing prompts designed to develop self-compassion, creative flexibility, and trust in ourselves and our writing

  • Optional group sharing and a gentle yet powerful contemplative feedback practice

  • Readings and discussion

CLASS OUTCOMES:

By the end of this six-week class, you’ll:

  • Begin making friends with your inner critic

  • Learn mindfulness tools to develop self-compassion and equanimity

  • Work with fear and resistance

  • Give and receive supportive feedback

  • Develop a regular writing practice

  • Create fresh new work

  • Connect with a compassionate community of other writers

PAY FROM THE HEART TUITION:

  • $300 - full rate
